August 19, 2019
Dear West TV Families,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I am excited to serve as the new principal of West TV. I have been a principal at Errol Hassell Elementary School in the Beaverton School District for the past 8 years. Prior to that I was an assistant principal at Meadow Park Middle School for 4 years.
Before coming to work in the Beaverton School District as an administrator, I was a teacher in the Portland School District. And prior to working in education, I worked at OSU in Human Resources and for the City of Corvallis as a Police Officer and Crime Prevention Officer.
I’ve lived in Beaverton for 20 years and I’m a native Oregonian - born and raised in Corvallis. My parents met in college while attending OSU and have been married for over 50 years. My two sisters and I also graduated from OSU - go Beavs!
When I’m not working at the school, I enjoy reading and being active - each week I spend several evenings at the gym doing Zumba classes - my favorite classes to take! I have one child, my 26 year old daughter Rachel, who graduated from Westview High School in 2011 and now resides in Los Angeles, California. She is my everything and I visit her as often as I can.
Just a reminder about the change in the school day start & end times this year - the school day now begins at 8:00am and students are dismissed at 2:35pm.
This summer work began to replace the roof of the school. The new roof is being installed now.
I was fortunate to be able to spend a day at West TV last spring just before the school year ended and had the opportunity to meet the staff and most of the students. I look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks!

For the safety of your children, please do not allow them to arrive before supervision is provided. At 7:55am classroom teachers retrieve students from the gym and lead them to class.
Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast and lunch are served beginning the first day of school. Students may arrive for breakfast in the cafeteria at 7:40. Please send your child with a check made out to West TV Café for deposit into their breakfast/lunch account. Put the check in an envelope with your child’s name on it and place it in the drop box inside the front entrance. Returning students will have the same lunch PIN (personal identification number) as last year and new students will be assigned a PIN upon enrollment. (The PIN is also your child’s student ID and library ID.) Once you have your child’s student ID number, you can create an account to make automatic deposits for breakfast and lunch using the online payment service School Cafe' .
Go to the BSD Nutrition Services webpage or the link on our school website for current meal information, menus, and meal prices. Information for the Meal Benefits Program (free or reduced lunch prices) are available on the web site.
Bus Route Information
Using your child's student ID number, you may look up the specific route and bus stop information by visiting Transportation website . The Transportation Department will send an email or autodial phone call to families with bus stop information.
Students are expected to be at their bus at least five minutes early until our drivers learn their routes. Don’t worry if the bus is late for pick-up and drop-off during the first few weeks of school. Please note, bus drivers do not wait for an adult to be present at the afternoon bus stop.
West TV All Star News, PTC Newsletter & Beaverton School District News
In an effort to reduce the amount of paper used for communication, most of the information shared by the school, the PTC, and the District will be through email and our website.
The school newsletter, All Star News , and PTC Newsletter are emailed each month. Emails will include school and PTC fliers, community fliers, and other helpful resources and information. The school newsletter is archived on our school webpage.
Our school has a 24-hour school Attendance Line. If your child is absent from school for any reason, please call 503-356-2511. Please refrain from calling the school office. The Attendance Line is checked multiple times each day, so please do not call the main office to report an absence.
Parking Lot Safety
Our school has a very small and busy parking lot. To reduce vehicular traffic, I strongly encourage families to send your child on the school bus, if provided, or walk to and from school. Here is a link to the map of the parking lot indicating the safest planned drop-off and pick-up procedure. Adhering closely to the plan will make arrival and dismissal as smooth and as safe as possible. Students who walk to school or ride bikes are asked to be extremely cautious. It is important for students to remember to watch the crossing guard at the crosswalk and obey the stop signs. A crossing guard will lead students across the driveway to the gym and the routine is reversed for walking home.
A school events calendar can be found on the WTV school website. This calendar has our most current events and is updated on a regular basis. The District Calendar is available through this link.
Back to School Picnic
A back to school family gathering and celebration has been a tradition at West TV for more than 40 years. Please join us at the PTC sponsored event on Thursday, September 6th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for some good old-fashioned community fun. The PTC will provide the entire picnic dinner!
Back to School Night
Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 12th, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Please put this date on your calendar. Your child’s teacher will share grade level curriculum, homework expectations, classroom routines and procedures, and special activities. Please note Back to School Night is for parents/guardians only.
Please volunteer at West TV! There are many activities and programs that you can support by volunteering. If you are interested in helping out, please respond to PTC requests for help. A background check is required for all volunteers for all Beaverton schools. Please visit the District website and click on Community and Volunteer . It can take several weeks to get on the approved volunteer list at the beginning of the year, so please complete the background check as soon as possible. Beaverton School District Student/Family Handbook and West TV Family Handbook The District expects families to read the BSD Student & Family Handbook. West TV has two additional handbooks. One is the West TV Family Handbook and the second is our Recess Handbook. Please read all handbooks thoroughly so you and your child understand BSD and West TV expectations. The handboooks can be found on our school website.
Most policies and procedures in the handbooks are developed to enhance opportunities for learning, or to keep our school a safe place for all students and staff. The District requires that we have each family acknowledge that they have received, read, and discussed the Student/Family Handbook with their children.
We would like each family to provide their child(ren) with their own personal earbuds/headphones for use with chromebooks and iPads. Send the earbuds/headphones to school as soon as you are able. If there is a financial hardship, please contact the school office.

Schools are no longer allowed to post staff emails on our web page. Attached is a list of all staff with their email addresses for your convenience.
We have made some room changes within WTV and have attached a 2019-2020 school map. We ask that you look it over and locate your child’s classroom.
